Stars Assign Nolan Baumgartner to Manitoba

FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Nolan Baumgartner to the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League. Baumgartner was recalled by Dallas on April 8 and was with the club during its first-round playoff series victory over Anaheim. Previously, he had been playing in Manitoba on loan from Dallas and their top development affiliate in the AHL, the Iowa Stars, since Feb. 27. He will now rejoin the Moose for their AHL Calder Cup playoff series vs. Syracuse.

Baumgartner, 32, has skated in a total of 74 AHL games this season between Iowa and Manitoba, and has collected 24 points (5 goals, 19 assists) and 57 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 205-pound defenseman skated in seven games for Dallas last season, recording two assists, and in six games with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2006-07, collected one helper and 21 PIM. He was claimed by Dallas off waivers from Philadelphia on Feb. 24, 2007.

Originally selected by Washington in the first round (No. 10 overall) of the 1994 Entry Draft, Baumgartner has skated in 131 career NHL games with Washington, Chicago, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Dallas, recording 45 points (6 goals, 39 assists) and 67 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in three career Stanley Cup Playoff games, collecting 10 penalty minutes.

The native of Calgary, Alta., has served as an AHL captain for Manitoba in 2004-05 and the Norfolk Admirals in 2001-02, and was selected to play at the AHL All-Star Game in 2005. He had a decorated four-year career with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League from 1992-96, winning consecutive Memorial Cup championships (1994 and 1995) and having been named Canadian Major Junior Defenseman of the Year for the 1994-95 season.

Guys come together, and it's like your family out there ... That's what it's all about. If you mess with one of our guys, you're going to mess with five of them. That's just the way it's going to go."
