Stars Activate Center Patrik Stefan From IR

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has activated center Patrik Stefan from the injured reserve list.

Stefan, 26, was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 3 with a hip injury that forced him to miss the first two games of the season. He was scoreless in four preseason games with the Stars in 2006. The 6-2, 205-pound center was acquired by Dallas from Atlanta with Jaroslav Modry in exchange for Niko Kapanen and a 2006 seventh round pick on June 24, 2006.

In 64 games with the Thrashers last season, Stefan scored 10 goals and added 14 assists for 24 points with 36 penalty minutes and a +3 rating. The number one overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by Atlanta has appeared in 414 career NHL games and registered 59 goals and 118 assists for 177 points with 148 penalty minutes.

I give him two weeks before he's back on the IR. This guy could possibly be the worst first overall selection ever.

I'll put Alexander Daigle ahead of him in that category...

Hey Daigle eventually rounded into barely a 20 goal scorer, give him some credit.

I think everyone around here has little or no expectations from him. With as many talented forwards as Dallas has, he'll be lucky to see ten minutes a night centering the fourth line every other shift.

But you never know.

Its pretty f'n pathetic that players like Patrik Stefan and Kris Beech have spots on 3rd and 4th lines, when guys like Kip Brennan, Darryl Bootland and Shawn Thornton can't even make an NHL roster.

I hated Stefan in Atlanta. He is perhaps the sofest player in the league.

But he plays a quiet game, and his play is not that bad. Very conservative however, and will never live up to the pressue or expectations of a number one overall pick. He does everything average minus a scoring touch he was touted as having.., and any sort of physical play is out of the question..

Modry was terrible in his stint as a Thrasher.
