Stars Acquire Eric Nystrom; Reassign Tomas Vincour

Frisco, TX – The Dallas Stars announced today that the NHL club has acquired forward Eric Nystrom from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for future considerations. The club also assigned forward Tomas Vincour to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nystrom, 28, has skated in 286 NHL games, scoring 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points. The 6-1, 193-pound forward from Syosset, New York, skated in every game last season for the Minnesota Wild and registered 12 points (4 goals and 8 assists).

“Eric is a hard-working forward who kills penalties and will help with the depth of our current roster,” said Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk.

The 10th overall selection of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames, Nystrom appeared in 204 games with the Flames from 2005-2010, scoring 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points. Nystrom also skated in 13 playoff games with Calgary with four points (2 goals, 2 assists), including one game-winning goal.

Vincour, a 6-2, 204-pound forward from Brno, Czech Republic, has appeared in 27 NHL games in his career with Dallas, collecting two points (1 goal, 1 assist).

a steal considering future considerations pretty much means nothing.

I guess the Stars are just doing this to avoid going under the cap floor.

Not really a steal when every team in the league passed up on him on waivers twice.

With the trade, the Stars will be paying him the full amount rather than if they claimed him off waivers from the Wild. The Stars needed Nystrom's full salary in order to make the NHL's salary cap floor.

I just looked at his numbers, I thought he had a little more offensive skill then that.

And Dallas is full of players like him. Burish, Dowell, Fiddler, Barch now Nystrom. If you add Dvorak, Peterson and Wandell, I wonder who is going to score goals for them. But they sure are a gritty team.

If they needed salary, they should've traded for Avery
