St. Louis Blues Sign Jay McKee and Re-Sign Dallas Drake

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has re-signed Captain Dallas Drake to a multi-year contract and has signed free agent defenseman Jay McKee to a multi-year contract.

“I have admired the way Dallas handles himself on and off the ice over his career and thrilled to have him back leading our team,” said Davidson. “He is a character guy and gives everything he has night after night.”

Drake, 37, has played in 884 National Hockey League games during his 13-year career with the Detroit, Winnipeg, Phoenix and St. Louis. The veteran winger was named Captain this past season and played in 62 games, recording 2-24-26 points and averaged 16:55 minutes per game. His 24 assists ranked 3rd on the team last season. He was signed as a free agent by the Blues on July 1, 2000 after four seasons in Phoenix. He was originally drafted 116th overall by Detroit in the of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

“The organization is excited to add a quality defenseman and excellent leader in Jay McKee,” said Davidson. “He was very instrumental in Buffalo’s playoff run last season and excited that he has agreed to be part of the St. Louis Blues.”

McKee, 28, has played in 582 National Hockey League games during his nine-year career with the Sabres. The veteran defenseman was an Alternate Captain for the Sabres last season when he played in 75 games, recording 5-11-16 points and averaging 18:03 minutes per game. He played in 17 playoff games last season and has played in 51 for his career. He was originally drafted 14th overall in the 1st round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

The blues have a good D built up here. Now they need to start making some major changes up front.

You forgot the toughest of the Blues D corp, Matt Walker. He was resigned by the Blues for just a little more than the qualifying offer a couple days ago along with Ryan Johnson.

Blues got some D-going now.

Solid in front of the goal, now get going on those forward lines! Lots of work!
