St. Louis Blues Sign Bill Guerin

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed free agent right winger Bill Guerin to a one-year contract.

“Bill is another Stanley Cup champion who has the ability to bring a combination of speed, skill and offense to our top two forward lines,” said Davidson. “He is still a top power forward in the game who thrives on taking the puck to the net.”

Guerin, 35, has played in 949 National Hockey League games during his 14-year career with New Jersey, Edmonton, Boston and Dallas, recording 663 points (328 goals, 335 assists) and 1,373 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 210-pound power forward helped New Jersey win the Stanley Cup in 1995. Guerin has played in three NHL All-Star games and was voted a second team All-Star in 2001-02 after scoring a career-high 41 goals for the season. Since 1998-99, the Worcester, Massachusetts native has posted 40-plus point seasons and registered a career-high 85 points (40 goals, 45 assists) in the 2000-01 campaign.

Guerin was originally drafted by New Jersey in the first round, fifth overall, in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

the blues are gonna have 1 good line of all american hockey players. thats what i like to see! now the blues just need a goalie, like a marty biron or dan cloutier and i predict that they'll get the 8th spot in the west at least, maybe 7th spot.

Time will tell how this plays out. Details of the contract are a big deal in this case.

Agreed, I'm expecting it to be an incentive based contract. Any non-production based contract that pays him over the amount you mentioned wouldn't be a smart move by the Blues.

It would be a bad move on the part of the Blues to lock up a guy his age with the year he had last year for any longer than that.

The West is going to be extremely competitive, predicting that the Blues make the playoffs is a bit much at this point.

The Blues are having a great offseason, it'll be interesting to see how Guerin does there this year.

Guerin is going to be making a lot of money this year and next year between his new contracts and his old ones! Being bought out is a sweet deal.

What is the deal with the Blues and american born players? Even their draft pick Johnson is American!
