new as poster, long time visitor, hello.

Suprised by all the "hollweg is to blame" sentiment. Sixth suspension for Simon, not exactly a choir boy, his apology fairly late in the process, and ablatant act of stickswing. thought penalty light.

Let's see, players are losing their careers to concussions due to illegal hits, and knee injuries due to illegal knee on knee hits, yet Simon gets the worst punishment of all time?
I also think Simon was trying to cross check Hollweg but Hollweg moved out of the way making Simon have to reach out to hit him. No excuse for what he did, but definitely nowhere near the worst infraction of all time.
Whats funny and sad is somewhere down the road this season or in the playoffs, some moron like Chris Neil or Janssen will pop somebody like Lecavalier's knee out and get 5 games.
Barry Melrose apparently cares about the sport more than you. He was a legitimately tough player in his day, a coach who always valued his enforcers and a guy who has dedicated his life to this great game. Most hockey fans, who aren't brainless homers, hate seeing stuff like Simon's slash. There is no place in hockey for guys who use their sticks as weapons.

Mcsorley and Bertuzzi did so much more damage than this. This is such bull. The guys not even a goon, wasnt he playing on the first line this year? Plus look who he hit in the head, leader of the SS, Ryan Hollweg. f uck you Hollweg, dont board somebody next time you bag of dush.

What difference does it make who was on the other end of the hit? I see on here all the time( not by you per say) that "if it wasn't so and so"(Cosby, Ovechkin) the penalty wouldn't be so severe. It is ok if the penalty doesn't fit a superstar..but if it isn't a superstar the penalty don't fit either? It was a clean hit..it wasn't boarding or even close to boarding.

Simon pleads he was "out of it" from the hit he took

B.S!
The hit he took from Hollweg was nothing,...really...come on, u saw it!
The chop came from pure fustration in the fact that Simon felt there should have been a call in his own mind, and when none was forthcoming...he reacted stupidly.
Don't think he should play ever again.

You swing your stick at someone in the NHL and you pay. I wish it wasnt Simon I really like the guy. He is a stand up tough guy.

But he has to pay the price for what he did. I wish it was less but know where the NHL is coming from.

Stick swinging is completely seperate from fighting and is actuall a cowardice act. Simon must have really lost his head because usually guys that swing their sticks are total pu$$y's like Denis Savard on Steve Smith or Tomas Sandstrom and the like.

What would Simon's suspension be if Hollweg was seriously injured? Probably even more severe. I just find it funny how some people on here want a guy like Perezhogin banned from hockey forever and then think Simon should only get a few games, since he is a tough guy.
The commie should still be banned for a year. He never really did serve a suspension since he was able to earn a living elsewhere, while the NHL was on strike and several players were in the AHL. Perezhogin's swing was far more vicious than Simon's.

What infuriates me is the length of the suspension considering the guy is not injured and has not missed a game. I was expecting 10-15 for the swing but not 25 considering Hunter's cheapshot on Turgeon, during the playoffs, was 25.

Buh-bye Simon. you deserved what you got and even more for giving Bettman more ammunition to phase out the rough stuff and for being a ***** and resorting to stick work which has nothing to do with fighting. Enjoy your time off son.

Man was I just a bit off in my suspension estimates Whether or not this incident was worse than prior cases, what he did was inexcusable and he deserves every bit of whats given to him. Kind of ironic how I was calling for the guy to be waved. Guess this is the next best thing. I really wish he never has the honor to dress in an Islanders uniform ever again. He has disgraced his team and their fans and now he has to live with this. I want to feel bad for him but I can't. He cowardly used his stick as a weapon and that has no place in the game. When fighting is legal, you have to take advantage of it. Don't take the easy way out.

That dude would have been sent to the electric chair.

Seriously, Holloweg deserves to have his arse pounded every minute of every day. But Simon should be gratefull if he ever plays again. Next time drop your gloves, face him, and if he still doesn't want to go... pound him anyway. Swinging your stick is a no-no, dear.

"it was only Hollweg", "he didn't really get hurt", "wah, wah, wah..." So you want to play into the NHL's hands and say if it was Crosby, AO, it should be more??? Look at it a thousand times, HOllweg's hit was not dirty.

Simon got up, looked at what was in front of him, and took a two-handed swing at the guy's neck/head. Let me take a shot at you if it's not a big deal.

all of you "tough" guys saying it's too much, give me a break. I don't care if it was Simon, who I ALSO like, or Hollweg, or Orr, or any Ranger. He got what he deserved. For a guy who is supposedly concussed, it was a pretty clear line of thinking. He had time to do anything he wanted, plenty of it.

Now HE's crying about a concussion. Fight the f'ing guy!!!! Like nobody was going to see that!!???

spoken like a stupid homer.

Hollweg is a dirty player who hit from behind, boarded him.. whatever you wanna call it...and I wish Simon would have injured him, and actually beheaded him, and skated around with his head and showing it to the crowd scaring some of you noobs and crybabies.
