All do respect to Crosby, if he is done the NHL is really really going to start protecting players...

If they would just get rid of the body armor these players wear and go to softer pads, you might see fewer concussions. That play may look innocent until you think about that equipment. It looks like Krejci's shoulder got Crosby in the chin and chest (it wasn't an elbow - don't know what that person who made the clip was looking at), and given how hard those shoulder pads are, it's like getting hit with a brick. I don't know why the league can't figure that out - it would make more sense than more rules and suspensions.

The way the Penguins are about disclosing injuries, I wouldn't be surprised if this was more of a knee/lower body issue than head. Crosby looked fine until he collided with Kunitz. After that, he was only skating at half speed. He seemed irritatedly energetic after the business with Krejci, but he wasn't really there after the Kunitz impact.

Yea we knock side the kid! but he is to the finesse part of the game! Someone like McGrattan for instance is to the fighting part of the game. The NHL needs both!

A potentially careeer ending pattern of concussions that could cause permanent and degenerative brain disease equates to nothing. Karma does not exist here. Posts like this are unwanted. Also, diving will be the least of the NHL's problems if they lose their signature player due to contact related concussions.

With all do respect , all the owners and governors have to do is drop the instigator rule , but no they wont protect the Millions they have invested in players like Crosby .
I dont know if it is just stupidity or they just use their team as a tax write-off , they make their running of the league a joke when they refuse to protect the biggest investment and the biggest drawing card they have , Crosby is the reason they fill the building every time he plays in a rink on the road , it's the only time most teams have a sellout .
I know I dont go to games to see Betman , I want to see the best player in the world not some clown in a suit that makes the game we all love impossible to watch for most fans that grew up with the rough and tumble game of yesteryear ..

Your right fan65,repealing the instigater penalty would go along way in cleaning up some of the cheap stuff. We all love the rough and tumble;hits and fights, but its the Crosbys that sell seats. The league can ill afford to lose its marketable players. A seriouse discussion involving safer equipment will also help.

Maybe they should just let him sit out the rest of the year?

If they have sense enough to adapt to the softer pads depicted in PhlyerPhanitic's post in the OHL at the start of this season to help cut down on concussions why can't the NHL do the same thing ??????

I've said it again and again and again. Get rid of the hard plastic pads and you will get rid of a good number of injuries that they create! Phlyer and FS65 are dead on. Gte rid of the big pads then the players are less likely to take big runs at other players because they will drastically reduce the cushioning they themselves will feel and with the softer pads the player taking the hit won't have to take the hard hit to the head.

Giroux, Pronger, Savard, Crosby, Letang, Michalek, Toews, and Perron. Top level talent who've suffered concussions due to hard shoulder caps.
