Sharks Sign Logan Couture to Two-Year Extension
SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed center Logan Couture to a two-year contract extension.
Named the 2010-11 PlayStation “Sharks Rookie of the Year” and finishing second in the Calder Trophy race, Couture, 22, was second among all NHL rookies in goals (32) and points (32-24=56), first in game-winning goals (eight), power play goals (10), shots (235) and fifth in plus/minus (+18). In addition, he set an NHL rookie record by scoring seven game-winning goals on the road and became only the 23rd NHL rookie to ever score 20-plus road goals (22). Overall in the NHL, Couture finished T-14th in goals, T-7th in game-winning goals and 14th among all NHL forwards in blocked shots (66). He also set Sharks rookie records for goals, power play goals, game-winning goals and shots. Named to the Honda NHL Superskills squad at the 2011 NHL All-Star Game, he was named NHL Rookie of the Month and Sharks Player of the Month for December 2010. “Logan is an excellent teammate and he proved it by committing to the team-first philosophy that we have instilled here,” said Wilson. “Last season, as a rookie, he was a catalyst for our hockey club as one of our most consistent players. Over the last two postseasons, he has been one of our most reliable players. We’re excited to see him build upon his early success and continue his growth over the next three seasons.” In two seasons, Couture has posted 65 points (37-28=65) and a +22 plus/minus rating in 104 regular season games. Those 104 games are tied for the fifth most ever recorded by a player prior to losing his eligibility for the Calder Trophy trailing only Nelson Pyatt (107), Pat Ribble (106), John Wensick (106) and Mikhail Grabovski (105). Amassing 33 postseason games thus far, he has posted 18 points (11-7=18) and his 11 goals place him tied for tenth on the all-time franchise playoff goals scored list. The six-foot-one, 195-pound native of London, Ontario was originally selected by San Jose in the first round (9th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. |

Guy from Hockey Break, had Couture quoted as saying Doughty is unhappy and growing frustrated with the contract talks. Not to go off track but Doughty is sounding more and more like a massive tool.

I like how teammate Willie Mitchell said Jack Johnson was a better player than Doughty. Johnson a real pro that puts time into being a real professional. The skill is only now starting to set in with Johnson and wait a couple of years and that will even be better than Doughty.
