Sharks Recall Claude Lemieux; Reassign Staubitz, Cavanagh and Place Lukowich on IR

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned forwards Brad Staubitz and Tom Cavanagh to the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League and recalled forward Claude Lemieux.

The team also placed defenseman Brad Lukowich on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 6.

Lemieux has played in 23 games with Worcester, posting 11 points (3-8=11), 24 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. He was originally signed by San Jose as a free agent on Dec. 29, 2007.

Staubitz played in 15 games with San Jose this season, posting three points (1-2=3) and 42 penalty minutes. In 23 games with Worcester, he has one assist and 58 penalty minutes. He was signed as a free agent by San Jose on Sept. 19, 2005.

Cavanagh spent 12 games with San Jose, adding one assist and two penalty minutes. In 21 games with Worcester, he posted 18 points (9-9=18) and 17 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by San Jose in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The guy was a no show in his few years as a Star/Coyote, when he past his prime, so what makes him think he can contribute with age now being a factor.

Yes!

Now all we need is Scott Mellanby, Jeff Odgers, Todd Simpson and Rick Tocchet to re-lace'em up and we're set to go with some old time hockey players!

I'm very interested to see how this goes. With how well the Sharks have been playing, I'm not too sure of why they need to bring him up, but, lets see what the old man has left.

I heard he had been doing well on the farm and keeping up with the kids in the Sharks system. I'm just surprised they called him up this early, I thought they'd give him more time and call him up closer to the playoffs. It'll be interesting to see how he does....

Unreal I never thought he would make it back, I will follow with enthusiasm to see how he performs. Feb 25th Sharks and Wings bring up McCarty!

Wow! Claude Lemieux is back in the NHL.

I know he wanted to make a comeback, but I never thought he actually would, so I'm kinda surprised. It will be weird seeing him out there again.

I don't like the guy, but I'm interested to see what he does.

I still don't understand this at all. The Sharks have the best record in hockey right now, and they continue to go along with what's essentially a publicity stunt. I don't care if he's done better in the AHL than some people might have expected, they don't need the guy. I'd rather see Staubitz up. Hopefully someone will take out the gutless puke soon, and this will be over with.
