Sharks Re-Sign Jody Shelley
SAN JOSE — San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed Group III unrestricted free agent left wing Jody Shelley to a two-year contract.
Shelley was acquired by San Jose on Jan. 29, 2008 from Columbus in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. With the Sharks, Shelley posted seven points (1-6=7) and 91 penalty minutes in 31 games. He set a Sharks single-game franchise record by posting 41 penalty minutes at Dallas on April 6. In total, Shelley appeared in 62 games during 2007-08 with Columbus and San Jose and recorded seven points (1-6=7) and 135 penalty minutes. The six-foot-four, 225-pound native of Thompson, Manitoba appeared in six games during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He did not record a point and accumulated two penalty minutes. “From the first day that Jody arrived here, he brought toughness and character,” said Wilson. “He is one of the most respected players in our room because of his team-first attitude and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.” Shelley has played in 411 National Hockey League games and has 36 points (12-24=36) and 1,116 penalty minutes. The 32-year-old was originally signed by Columbus as a free agent on Feb. 1, 2001. |

Good signing by the Sharks, good to see Shelley appreciated again.

Great news. Good for Shelley.

Awesome, hopefully he plays more than he did with Columbus.
|
Good to see Shelly get signed, i always liked him.

He played very well for the Sharks, and I'm pretty sure he was dressed for every game the team played since they acquired him, so all indications are that we'll see quite a bit of him this season.

Now that Wilson is gone, I feel better about Shelley's chances for playing more. He produced fairly well offensively when he got to play a bit.
Ron Wilson seemed to be reason Scott Parker was constantly on the phantom IR. I wouldn't have been very excited about Shelley re-signing if Wilson was still the coach. |
Pacific Division is looking good...now Dallas just needs a true heavy-weight. Barch and Crombeen are light heavys.
Anaheim : Parros Los Angeles: Ivanans Phoenix: McGrattan San Jose: Shelley |
Thank God, I like Shelley a lot and I feel that he is a good fit there, and that San Jose respects him by how they gave him the A last playoffs. Great job San Jose.

Love this resigning. Shell is exactly what you want in an enforcer, and its good to see him rewarded with a contract.
Pacific games are going to be quite fun this year. |
Seeing any enforcer being signed to any team puts a smile on my face. Shelly is definitely one of those fighters who will protect your players and do all you want from an enforcer.
