Sharks Re-Sign Desjardins, Wingels and Braun
SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Justin Braun to a three-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2011-12, Braun played 66 games for San Jose, posting 11 points (two goals, nine assists) and 23 penalty minutes. In six games with Worcester, he notched three assists with a plus-four rating. In addition, Braun played in all five playoff games for San Jose in their first round series playoff against the St. Louis Blues. Following the conclusion of the 2011-2012 NHL season, Braun was added to the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship and played in all eight games for Team USA. SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed forward Tommy Wingels to a two-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2011-12, Wingels played 33 games for San Jose, posting nine points (three goals, six assists), 18 penalty minutes and 102 hits. In 29 games with Worcester, he posted 21 points (13 goals, 8 assists) with 28 penalty minutes. Wingels played in all five playoff games for San Jose, notching one assist. He finished the postseason first on the team in hits (17) and tied for third in plus-minus rating (+1). Wingels was the Sharks selection for the 2012 Bill Masterton Trophy, an award given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. He was nominated for his work with the “You Can Play” Project. The six-foot, 190-pound native of Evanston, IL was selected in the sixth round (177th overall) by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Draft. In 2011-12, Desjardins played 76 games for San Jose, posting 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), a plus-four rating, 47 penalty minutes, and a 53% success rate in the faceoff circle. He finished the regular season fourth on the Sharks in game winning goals (3) and first in faceoff percentage amongst all NHL rookies who took at least 100 faceoffs. Desjardins played in all five playoff games for San Jose, scoring one goal. He finished the postseason second on the team in faceoff percentage (60%). Desjardins was named the 2011-2012 PlayStation “Sharks Rookie of the Year” in voting conducted by a panel of Bay Area media.
