Sharks Place Parker on IR; Recall Clowe

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has recalled forward Ryane Clowe from the Cleveland Barons, the Sharks top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

This marks Clowe’s third stint with San Jose this season. After beginning the season with the Sharks, he was initially assigned to Cleveland on November 20th. In 16 games with the Sharks, he has posted two assists and nine penalty minutes. In 10 games with the Barons, Clowe has produced 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists).

The six-foot-two, 225-pound native of St. John’s Newfoundland, was originally selected by San Jose in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he led the Barons in goals (27, assists (35), points (62) and plus/minus (+19) en route to being named the team’s most valuable player.

In addition, the Sharks also placed forward Scott Parker on the injured reserve list.

This is fastly becoming ridiculous. By the end of the season Scott Parker will have probably played 15 games...at best.

Is this PCS related?

I agree with ya Hump, him getting 15 games is a stretch right now. Hell, him getting 15 total minutes of ice time is a stretch.

Why is it ridiculous? the guy obviously has concussion related issues so it's more sad then anything as it may be the end of Parker for good...

Its ridiculous, in the fact that the guy keeps coming back, appears to be fine and over his concussion problems, though only to be placed back on IR. Hell, Parker even scored a goal in his first shift this season. Don't get me wrong, I also find it sad that he's still suffering post concussion syndrome like problems. Its frusterating, considering he's one of my favorite heavyweights in the league. Hopefully, Scott Parker get better soon so that the we can see some scraps between him, Laraque, Fedoruk, Shelley, May, Brookbank, and everyone else.

I feel your frustration as he is one of my favourite heavyweights as well, I don't know why he keeps going back and forth from being injured, I mean, if he has post concussion syndroms you definitely can't rush things so it doesn't really make sense to me...Hopefully he's back sooner then later because I really want to see him knock Boogard around...

If he was a prized goal scorer he may be treated differently. I dont understand this going back and forth.

Its obvious the guy is not over his concussion problems.

Bad news here. He may not be back for a while. I don't see how the team medical staff keeps clearing him to play though. The last thing you want is someone with concussion symptoms out there playing. While I'd love to see him back, let's hope he sits out long enough to properly recover this time.

Parker might go out like Stu Grimson did. Back and forth from the IR, to eventually having to Retire from this Issue. Let's hope not.

Good point. I hope he doesnt because hes still a relatively young enforcer compared to Stu when he had his major problems. Hopefully he is able to come back later this year and contribute from the enforcing standpoint with Joe on the team now.

Parker, who has missed the majority of the season with a head injury suffered in training camp, was placed on injured reserve by the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Parker suffered a concussion when he was hit in the face with a puck during a preseason game. The rugged right wing missed the first 19 games of the season before making his debut on November 21.

However, Parker landed back on IR the next day and did not return to the lineup until December 20, when he scored a goal on his first shift against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The enforcer appeared in one of the next two games but has not yet recovered completely, forcing him to spend more time on injured reserve.

This is really frustrating news. It looked like Parker was fully recovered, especially with that goal. Without Parker, the Sharks have willing middleweights like Scott Thornton and Rob Davison, even Mark Smith is willing to go, but no true heavyweight anywhere in the system that could replace Parker.

It pains me to say this, but Parker out of the lineup really showed up when the Sharks faced Nashville, and Darcy Hordichuk mopped the rink with Smith. God bless Smith for trying, but it just showed that the Preds have a real total package that the Sharks are a notch under- in speed, in scoring, and especially in toughness, and that takes into account the addition of Joe Thornton.

Too bad for Parker. I watched him play lots in his last two seasons of junior (Kelowna Rockets) and he had pretty good skills at that level. I thought he might end up a half decent player in the NHL. So far he is not much more than a fighter.
