Sharks' Jamie McGinn to have hearing

Quote:

Last night’s Canucks-Sharks Game 3 nearly took a turn for the worse for San Jose thanks to a careless boarding major taken by fourth line forward Jamie McGinn. McGinn took a run at Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome as Rome was facing the boards. McGinn crashed into Rome and put him down on the ice and bleeding. McGinn was given a five minute major for boarding and assessed a game misconduct.

As with most nasty hits in the NHL, especially in the playoffs, the NHL is taking a closer look at things. According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, the NHL has scheduled a phone hearing with McGinn to possibly levy a suspension against him for the hit.

McGinn’s penalty led to the Canucks scoring twice on the major power play and changing the game from a dominating 4-1 Sharks lead to a perilous 4-3 advantage with just under four minutes left to play. While the Sharks hung on to win, you’d have to think that whether the league suspends McGinn or not we probably won’t see him suiting up for Game 4. Of course, that could mean we see the return of Game 2 pariah Ben Eager.

I hope he's suspended just for the fact Ben Eager would get back into the lineup.

Seemed like the penalty call had more to do with the result (Rome down) than the action. But, second 5 & Game for McGinn this playoffs, and he's never had that in the regular season.

Well that means no Eager. Bad news for us neutral fans that wanna see something blow up in the game today.

I saw Torres got another charging, when is someone gonna take exception to one of his frequent cheapshots?

Umm...Never...It's the playoffs.Heaven forbid someone drops the gloves and shows a set....If the anti-fighting pansies have their way,and fighting is banned. This is what you're going to get in this sport...

Why not take a look at the hit before calling it "cheap." Torres flew into the corner and labeled a guy with his head down. I thought it was clean and pretty similar to the hit that knocked Thornton out of the game. If you don't like the way he plays, you're on the wrong site, hombre.

I think McGinn got enough punishment by cartwheeling through the air from Keith Ballard. Another mammoth, highlight reel hipper delivered from Ballard.

Those hits usually look worse in slo-mo but not this one. It looked to me like he came in clean with a shoulder to shoulder hit. We've all seen much, much worse, guys who fly in with intent to injure, this didn't look like that at all.
