That sucks for McLaren. He's back in the AHL for the first time in a long time but he has no business being there. The dude is a real solid defenseman and still one of my favorite ex-Bruins. Hopefully he gets claimed on re-entry pretty soon.

Ask Denis Gauthier how he feels about it. McLaren is not the first one to play in the AHL even if he would be good enough to stay up. That is the effect of a salary cap and GM's going with youth all around the league. One bad year or training camp and you are out no matter what you did in the past at least if you are nothing special anymore.

His recent history of injuries doesn't help him. Think how Kyle feels-this has to be difficult to swallow. No teams claimed him? Surprising. I realize teams have their final roster set. In addition, teams are allowed a max of 23 players. That's kind of ridiculous. The combination of a roster max and sal cap was part of McLarens downfall.

He still gets his full NHL salary, but it doesn't count toward the Sharks cap.

He won't be put on re-entry waivers because if nobody claims him the Sharks will be over the cap.
