Sharks Acquire Ben Eager

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has acquired Ben Eager from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2011 draft.

Eager, 26, has played in 34 games with Atlanta this season, posting ten points (three goals, seven assists), a plus-four rating and 77 penalty minutes, ranking him 21st in the NHL.

He was a member of last season’s Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks squad, playing in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games and collecting three points (one goal, two assists) and 20 penalty minutes.

In 289 NHL games with Philadelphia, Chicago and Atlanta, Eager has posted 62 points (30 goals, 32 assists) and 698 penalty minutes.

He was originally selected by Phoenix in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

It's probably not a good idea to have Clowe constantly being in the box since he's been one of the best players on the Sharks this year.

I like this move from a Thrashers' perspective because this only solidifies that Boulton will be in the line-up for good.

Clowe didn't play in the last game and he is too valuable to lead the team in fights.

They now have Eager, Clowe, Murray, Mayers, Nichol and Mashinter (if he stays up)

The Thrashers have traded forward Ben Eager to the San Jose Sharks for their fifth round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Eager is fresh off of a four-game suspension for his actions in a game against Toronto on January 7 and had been used sparingly by Craig Ramsay in the month before his suspension. the rugged winger shad a strong preseason for the Thrashers but struggled to solidify a role for himself. He wasn’t contributing consistently at the offensive end and wasn’t strong enough defensively to earn PK time.

Too bad they didn't wait until the Thrashers played the Leafs again

Cool... I hope Parros or Westgarth break his face.

Pretty sure Parros has jumped Eager before for a hit on teammate, back when Eager was a Hawk.

For only a 5th round pick I guess it's a pretty good deal. Not really thrilled about it though, but with all of the Sharks injuries and the complete lack of depth in the system it adds another player in the mix at the very least.

Sharks still have no legit heavy. Whether people 'like' Eager or not, he's always good for a few great checks a game and should start a lot of sh*t for the Sharks (in a good way).

Good deal for the Thrashers but I'm a little curious why the Sharks would make a move for a guy like Eager. Their struggling to make the playoffs and Eager(IMO)won't really help in that regard. Unless its to take some of the physical pressure off of Clowe, which has already been stated.

only if he decides to show up for the game...half the games as a hawk or trash bag, he didn't show up. hence the benching's in atlanta and now the trade.

Decent trade for both sides. Eager acts like a bitch most of the time but he still manages to make games more interesting.
