Sens Re-Sign Chris Phillips to Four-Year Contract

OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager John Muckler today announced defenceman Chris Phillips has been re-signed to a four-year deal with the club.

Phillips, 29, recorded career-highs in goals (8) and points (26) in 82 games this season. The Calgary native finished tied for second on the club for most average time-on-ice (22:21) in 2006-07. Phillips was named as an alternate captain to open the 2006-07 campaign, and has served as Ottawa’s captain in five games this season, replacing an injured Daniel Alfredsson.

In nine NHL seasons, Phillips has 40 goals, 124 assists and 456 penalty minutes in 618 career games. He has also added six goals, seven assists and 48 penalty minutes in 67 career playoff games.

Drafted first overall by the Senators in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Phillips has spent his entire career in Ottawa and is only the fourth Senator to reach the 600-game mark and only the second defenceman after Wade Redden (758). He ranks fourth in all-time games played (618), ninth in all-time assists (124) and seventh in penalty minutes (456).

Phillips also ranks third all-time in playoff games played (67), tied for eighth in playoff goals (6) and fourth in playoff penalty minutes (48).
