Senators Sign Centre Martin St. Pierre

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today they have signed free-agent centre Martin St. Pierre to a one-year, two-way contract.

St. Pierre, 25, has been in the Boston Bruins’ organization since being acquired in a trade for Pascal Pelletier from the Chicago Blackhawks in July 2008. In three call-ups to the Bruins in 2008-09, he recorded two goals and as many assists in 14 games. With Boston’s AHL affiliate in Providence, he tied for the lead in team scoring with 15 goals, 51 assists and 58 penalty minutes over 61 games. St. Pierre had 19 multi-point games, including seven three-point efforts. He also added 16 points (5-11) and 26 penalty minutes in 16 post-season meetings.

After four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm, from 2000-01 to 2003-04, St. Pierre split the 2004-05 season between the East Coast Hockey League’s Grenville Grrrowl and AHL’s Edmonton Roadrunners.

The 5-9, 187-pound native of Embrun, Ont., signed as a free agent with Chicago on Nov. 3, 2005. He saw action with their AHL affiliates during his three seasons in the Blackhawks’ organization, as well as playing 21 NHL games recording four points (1-3) and eight penalty minutes. St. Pierre has a total of three goals, five assists and 12 penalty minutes in 35 NHL career games.
