This has been rumored for a while, and I can't say I'm too upset. The Seantors and their goalies. Lalime, Emery, Hasek and they are only some of the more recent examples. The only guy who was ever really solid was Ron Tugnutt. Gerber can certainly be added to the lists of busts too.

A lot of people have hope for Brian Elliott. He was getting ripped a little for his rebound control last night, but for the most part he's looked pretty good so far (which is limited, but still a nice sign). The great thing about yesterday was, despite his sketchy rebound control he seemed to not get rattled, he largely remained focused. Hopefully he works out.

Goodbye Gerber!

Keep in mind this is a 2 week conditioning assignment. The final decisions still have to be made here.

What the hell is going on in Ottawa? Granted, Gerber is'nt getting the job done but is throwing Elliot to the wolves the right idea? What if they shell shock the guy or his head gets so screwed up he never gets on track? Also, is he gonna be the number 1 or share it or what?
Will the Sens make another move and pick up another goalie(Sanford, Khabibulin?) or just right off the season(if its not already) and try UFA's in the offseason?

Yeah, but with Gerber's fragile confidence (which is comparable to that of a depressed, overweight, disfigured 14 year old girl) how do you think he'll handle this? Even if he tears it up down in Bingo, I don't know how he'll react upon his return to the show. Plus, Elliott would really have to screw things up and Auld would have to play mediocre or worse to get Gerber a fair shake at the #1 spot.

Now, with the way the Sens' season has been going so far, nothing would shock me, but at the same rate logic tells me this is the beginning of the end for Martin Gerber in Ottawa.

Even if he does tear it up in the AHL and has a half decent comeback to the NHL, no one in Ottawa really trusts him and his fragility. So even upon a successful return to the NHL, I think he doesn't figure into Ottawa's future, outside of being trade bait (again, providing all goes well for him).

I heard rumours that the Sens were close to dealing Gerber to the Kings but they seem to be happy with Quick so no deal was made.

I liked what I saw out of Elliott. He seems to have great focus and can get from side to side much better then Gerber. Idt Gerber is a starter in this league unless he is platooned. He would make a good backup. Ron Tugnutt brings back some great memories, one of my favorites in net.

Yeah, mine too. So happy we traded him for ****ing Tom Barasso...

Hey! We're going on a playoff run - let's get the oldest, most decrepit has-been in the league in nets!!

If no one picks him up once he's on re entry waivers, i would be shocked, since soo many teams could use his services granted the team he goes already has a solid number one and he's only used as a backup.

Who would have known that almost two years later, he would be sitting in the minors riding buses all day.

The Canes won it in 2004, and Cam Ward ran them to the Cup. If you remember, he was absolutely awful in the first round against the Habs, losing the first 2, then Ward came in and the rest is history.

Ottawa is in need more of a strong all around team overhaul then just between the pipes though.
