Senators Re-Sign Shean Donovan to Two-Year Deal

OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has re-signed right-winger Shean Donovan to a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old graduate of Brian Kilrea’s Ottawa 67’s recently completed his 13th NHL season and first with the Senators, recording 12 points (5-7) and 73 penalty minutes. Of his five goals, three were game-winners, two of which came in consecutive games (Oct. 20 – Oct. 27). The 2007-08 campaign also marked the second time in his career in which he has appeared in all 82 of his team’s regular season contests.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of Timmins, Ont., was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round, 28th overall, in 1993 and made his professional debut during the 1994-95 season, after completing his four-year junior career with the 67’s. He was originally acquired by the Senators from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Peter Schaefer on July 17, 2007.

In 13 NHL seasons with San Jose, the Colorado Avalanche, Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames, Boston and Ottawa, Donovan has appeared in 856 regular-season games, tallying 105 goals, 121 assists and 631 penalty minutes. He has also recorded 12 points (6-6) while playing 47 post-season games. He recorded one goal in the Senators’ 2008 opening-round playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

Donovan enjoyed his best offensive NHL season with Calgary in 2003-04 when he recorded career season highs of 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points.

Donovan has also represented Canada in international competition, winning the gold medal at the 1995 world junior championship and again at the 1997 world men’s championship.
