Senators Re-Sign Mike Fisher
OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray today announced the re-signing of centre Mike Fisher to a five-year agreement.
In his seventh season with the Senators in 2006-07, Fisher set new career highs in points (48) and assists (26), while tying his career high in goals (22). He also added 41 penalty minutes over 68 regular-season games. The 27-year-old also wore the alternate captain’s ‘A’ for 18 games. In 20 post-season games, Fisher ranked second in the NHL with 73 hits. In seven NHL seasons, Fisher has 92 goals, 100 assists and 314 penalty minutes during 384 regular-season games. He also has 12 goals and 11 assists in 69 playoff games. Career highlights for the Peterborough, Ont., native include his first nomination for the Selke Award in 2005-06, selection by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (Ottawa Chapter) for the Masterton award in 2003-04 and participation in the 2002 NHL YoungStars Game. Ottawa’s first second-round pick, 44th overall, in the 1998 NHL entry draft, Fisher played two season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves. |

Good signing by the Sens, get a guy like Fisher locked up before he has a chance to hit the open market.

Seems a little pricey, but given the latest inflations of the free agent market, maybe not. Fisher's a great 2-way forward for the Sens and gives a full, gritty effort every shift. Great move to get him locked up.

Reminds me of Mike Peca in his day.
Good signing by the Sens, but about a half mil a year too much. Two way players like Mike Fisher don't come along often and the Sens were smart to hold onto him long term. He shows up and then some in the playoffs, and is a great team guy. I'm looking forward to seeing Fish and Darcy Tucker throw down this year. Belak/McGrattan. Bell/Neil. Bell is back for game 16, against the Sens.

As far as the signing of Fisher itself, I'm thrilled. He is such a great team guy, so very clutch, and easily one of the best defensive forwards in the league. Ask any Ottawa fan and they'll tell you that this was a great signing. |
