OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray today announced the re-signing of goaltender Ray Emery to a three-year agreement.

He finished tied for sixth in the NHL in shutouts (5), tied for seventh in save-percentage (.910) and tied for 13th in goals-against-average (2.47). The 24-year-old backstopped the Senators in all 20 post-season games, winning the Eastern Conference title with 13 wins, seven losses, three shutouts, a goals-against-average of 2.26 and a 0.907 save-percentage.

In 103 NHL career games with Ottawa since 2002-03, Emery has 59 wins, 27 losses, 15 defeats in overtime and shootouts. His career goals-against-average is 2.59, with a 0.912 save-percentage and eight shutouts. In post-season action, he has 18 wins and 12 losses over 30 games, three shutouts and a goals-against-average of 2.46.

A graduate of the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Emery was drafted by the Senators in the fourth round, 99th overall, in the 2001 NHL draft. He played his first three pro seasons, from 2002-03 to 2004-05, with Ottawa’s American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y. Over 154 regular-season games, he had 76 wins, 58 losses and 18 ties with a 2.51 goals-against average.

Man, they were scheduled for arbitration this morning, talk 11th hour.
I am glad they got this done. Ray can now get a new wardrobe and buy that orange Lamborghini.

Now all Murray has to do is unload Gerber.

I really can't see a team having any interest in Gerber whatsoever with that contract. Unfortunately for Murray and the Sens, they'll be stuck with Gerber for another season. Next year when he has 1 year left on his contract, he'll make for better trade bait.

Good deal for Ottawa and Emery. Ray would have certainly got paid today at arbitration.

Agreed. Keeping Gerber up there to spell Emery will give the young guys in the A a little time to develop. All be it expensive...

Good job of getting the deal done before arbitration. Important signing for the Sens.

Emery was looking for 4 million+ per season, so yes, arbitration would have definitely been more costly to the team.

In regards to Gerber, apparently a deal may be in the works... Murray hinted that they were "half way there" last week.
