Senators and Neil Agree to Four-Year Deal

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators today announced they have agreed to a four-year deal with right-winger Chris Neil.

In 2008-09, his seventh season with the Senators and in the National Hockey League, the 30-year old recorded three goals, seven assists and added 146 penalty minutes in 60 games. Neil missed 21 games with two separate leg injuries and one to the flu.

In 511 career games with Ottawa, Neil has recorded 61 goals and 73 assists, and he leads the franchise with 1,298 all-time career penalty minutes. In 68 career playoff games, he has scored four goals, added four assists and registered 111 penalty minutes.

Neil was Ottawa’s sixth-round pick, 161st overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Sweet, can't wait. Come on Sens, dress Neil, Orr will be hungry. Make his face look more retarded. I hate this guy. But anyone would welcome him on their team..well, not Detroit.

After all of the chatter regarding Neil NOT returning to Ottawa, he ends up staying. Stunning end to all the drama.

Ya he wanted to stay in Canada though...

Would have liked to see him on the Wings though with Roy coming back to Ottawa... oh well.

I know Neil was in a lot of demand, but I can't believe people were willing to pay him that much. Yes, he can act as the team's tough guy and skate a regular shift, but his offensive production was way down. I'm shocked he was being offered over $2 mill a year, but when I hear Glen Sather involved, nothing should be shocking I guess. He still made out pretty well in this deal and it was important for the Senators to try and hang onto him.
