Senators Add Jarkko Ruutu
OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has signed left-winger Jarkko Ruutu to a three-year contract.
Ruutu scored six goals and added a career-high 10 assists while recording 134 hits and a team-leading 138 penalty minutes with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He added two goals, one assist, 50 hits and 26 penalty minutes while playing in all 20 playoff games during the Penguins run to the Stanley Cup final. The native of Helsinki, Finland has recorded 83 points (36-47) while accumulating 716 penalty minutes in 419 career National Hockey League games with Vancouver and Pittsburgh. Ruutu set career highs in games (82), goals (10) and points (17) with Vancouver in 2005-06. In 16 career shootout attempts, the left-winger has scored eight times (50.0 %). The 32-year-old has represented Finland internationally at the senior level nine times, including the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics, the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and six appearances at the IIHF World Hockey Championship (1998, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). Ruutu was Vancouver’s first third-round pick (68th overall) in the 1998 NHL entry draft. He signed as a free agent with Pittsburgh on July 4, 2006. Ruutu has two younger brothers who were also drafted into the NHL, Mikko (Ottawa, 1999) and Tuomo (2001, Chicago). Last edited by Thrillhouse; 07-02-2008 at 06:35 PM. |

I'm glad to see Ruutu get a offer. What's with Pittsburgh? Can't they keep anyone? Besides Malkin, the team is practically getting a overhall. I hope they can keep Orpiks.

If the Sens get Laraque, there's no guarantee, much like with McGrattan, that he'll ever play. Although he does have more skills, as he showed with the Pens last year, than just fighting.

Laraque is in contract talks with the predators and losing ruutu blows the poppycock but shero didnt wanna add a 3rd year and thats what everyone else was offering.
The Pens are looking at Matt Cooke to replace Ruutu.
