Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg will miss eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a lacerated tendon in his left forearm, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Wednesday.
The surgery was performed on Tuesday at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Seidenberg sustained the injury during the first period of the Bruins game against the Maple Leafs on Saturday when he boarded Nikolai Kulemin. He left that game and hasn't played since.
Acquired at the trade deadline from the Carolina Hurricanes, Seidenberg had been one of the Bruins' steadiest defensemen, averaging almost 23 minutes over 17 games and registering two goals and seven assists.
The Bruins are already thin on defense, with Mark Stuart (finger) and Andrew Ference (groin) both out of the lineup. Stuart had surgery on an infected finger over the weekend and is expected to miss two weeks, while Ference has missed the Bruins last six games. Coach Claude Julien said at practice on Tuesday that Ference likely wouldn't be able to play until the playoffs. Captain Zdeno Chara broke his nose Monday against the Capitals but isn't expected to miss any time.
Our training staff is retarded. For both Stuart and Seidenberg, they first said "day-to-day." They even specifically said Seidenberg didn't cut any tendons.
