Cant say I am surprised , after his dismal 9 points in 39 games last season his career looked over , he has been playing for the Alaska Aces and has not lit them up either , too bad I always liked Gomez ..

Laughed at the trade the Habs made for him and am still amazed McDounagh was involved in that deal. Higgins alone was an overpayment for Gomez.

And that 7.5 million contract he has with his performance since he signed it shows just how stupid some GM's can be ..

I don't know much about "buying out" a contract; is it paying a guy not to play basically? If the player healthy it doesn't seem fair to the team to pay him to sit on the couch.

yes, they are also paying him to stay home this season so they can buy him out during the coming offseason. they don't want him to get injured or else they can't buy him out, hence the sending him home part.

He got Reddened. He will not play anywhere, if he gets injured the Habs will not be able to buy him out next summer.

He will just sit at home and pick up the cheque. Lucky bastard.

Kinda sucks for him that he won't even be able to play in the AHL but it's pretty tough to feel bad for a guy getting paid millions of dollars to sit on his ass at home.

Whats that make it, 3 players that declined into nothing with Sather contracts. Drury, Gomez, Redden. Curious to see how Richards and Gabby play out now.

He should come to pittsburgh for 2mil/yr and take Staal's 3rd line center role.
