Savard Cleared to Play in 2nd Round

According to a TSN report, Boston Bruins center Marc Savard will announce that he is medically cleared to play from his concussion and will be ready for Round 2 against the Philadelphia Flyers or Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said Savard met with a doctor yesterday afternoon and that's when he got the clearance.

Good stuff! I just hope bringing Savard back into the mix doesn't screw up the chemistry that the team has going right now. I don't really think it would because he's been with the team so long and he's well liked by his teammates. Hopefully, Savvy brings with him that extra scoring punch that the team could really use.

Update

Whenever the Boston Bruins start the second round of the playoffs, they will have Marc Savard in the lineup.

The top-line center, who hasn't played since suffering a concussion March 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, has received medical clearance to play.

Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced during a conference call with reporters Tuesday that Savard had passed all necessary tests after visiting doctors on Monday afternoon.

"He has been cleared to play," said Chiarelli. "I'll leave it up to (coach) Claude (Julien) as far as putting the lines together and who plays and doesn't play, but Marc is ready to go. We'll see how his conditioning goes. I know he's very anxious to play."

Savard, who was limited to just 41 games this season due to a broken foot and the concussion, had 33 points and is the Bruins' most creative offensive player.

"He's an elite player," said Chiarelli. "He's been chomping at the bit to play. The fact that we were able to clinch and give him time to get acclimated and give him time to get full practices in is beneficial to (Savard) and the team. … It's like a trade deadline acquisition. We're adding a very good player to our mix for the next series."

Savard cleared to play

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has just announced that center Marc Savard has fully recovered from a concussion and has been cleared to play.

Chiarelli said Savard met with an independent neurologist and, in concert with the team medical staff, say the veteran is ready to join the Bruins for the second round of the playoffs.

Savard practiced with the Bruins Sunday, rejoining the team on the ice for the first time since suffering a Grade 2 concussion March 7 after a violent hit by the Penguins' Matt Cooke.

Savard, the club's top playmaker, scored 10 goals and added 21 assists in 41 games during the regular season.

There was some optimism yesterday after Savard participated in the team's optional morning skate before Game 6 of their playoff series with the Buffalo Sabres.

But he was ruled out even before the results of a neuro-psych test taken yesterday afternoon were available. The Bruins closed out the Sabres with a 4-3 victory.

I'd like to see Wheeler's ass get sat down, but it'll probably be Thornton.

Begin and Paille are gold on the PK.

If the B's end up drawing Philly in the 2nd round, I'd hope Julien finds a way to keep Thornton in the lineup. Because we'd need him.

He wasn't dying, he just couldn't think of anything better to do.

I agree. Begin or Sobotka should sit. (Not that either necessarily deserves to sit. But, thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.)

I will be surprised if Sobotka sits....I thought he played really well against the Sabres.

Marco's just like Ryder, (a streaky goalscorer). He'll come around & probably score some big goals for us before the playoffs are over.

They'll sit Thornton and rely on Begin to answer the calls if need be. It's not like Begin can't handle Danny or Ian
