Sabres' Tyler Myers Suspended Three Games

NEW YORK -- Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers has been suspended, without pay, for three games for boarding Montreal Canadiens forward Scott Gomez during NHL Game #1033 in Buffalo on Monday, March 12, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Myers will forfeit $14,189.19. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 13:11 of the third period. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.

Usually I disagree with the suspensions but in this case, this was a blatant hit from behind and was just a stupid play by Myers. To me it looked like he was mad because it looked like he got caught with an elbow a few seconds before he hit Gomez.

Damn, as a Sabre fan I would love to come in here and say this is a bull schitt suspension but the hit was flagrant. 3 games for a a top D-man is a lot for a team trying to squezze into the playoffs.

Flagrant, but still not suspension worthy to me. It deserves a beating, not a suspension.

I'm not shocked he was suspended, I'm just shocked I seen Tyler Myers throw a hit period.

I can't really disagree too much with this ruling. Myers was staring at Gomez's numbers the entire time, just not a smart play. Maybe a game longer than I would have thought for a first-time offender, but the league has been really interested in whether there was an injury as a result of the play this year when makign their decision.

You sir, must not know about the NEW Tyler "The Tower" Myers. He's been hiting and being much more tougher this season.

Hmm, ok. So injury resulting from these hits is now being used as part of the guideline for length of suspensions

Myers isn't an amateur when it comes to cheap hits from behind. He had one ten times worse than this hit on Craig Schira in the WHL playoffs. He didn't even get suspended for it either.

...if the play was as severe as Shanahan points-out,...why wasn't it a Major?
The inconsistency of so many of Shanahan's rulings are mind-boggling.
The NHL needs to end the ridiculousness of labeling penalties as either minor or major -- what's the difference in a charging call,....a boarding call or a high stick?
Take a look-back at ALL the "minor" infractions that were assessed additional punishment days later -- if the violations were that wrong when they occurred,...shouldn't a "major" have been given?

Stupid hit, deserved a suspension for sheer stupidity.

Don't know how anyone can complain about this.
