Sabres Trade Jason Pominville to Wild

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the Sabres have acquired forward Johan Larsson, goaltender Matt Hackett, a first-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Jason Pominville and a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

In his first AHL season, Larsson (5’10”, 200 lbs., 7/25/92) has recorded 37 points (15+22) in 62 games for the Houston Aeros. He made his NHL debut as a member of the Wild on Feb. 17 against Detroit, skating 14:02 of ice time.

Larsson was selected by the Wild in the second round (56th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Lau, Sweden, the forward captained Sweden’s goal medal-winning team at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he recorded six assists in six games. He was selected as the Swedish Elite League Rookie of the Year in 2012 after recording 36 points (12+24) in 49 games with Brynas (SEL).

Hackett (6’2”, 173 lbs., 3/7/90) has appeared in 43 games for the Aeros in his third AHL season, recording a 19-20-30 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. In 132 regular-season AHL games, the London, Ontario native has compiled a 62-53-13 record with a .913 save percentage and three shutouts. He has also backstopped the Aeros to a 14-12 record in 26 postseason games, reaching the Calder Cup finals in 2011.

Hackett was selected by the Wild in the third round (77th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 13 total NHL games as a member of the Wild in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, compiling a 3-7-0 record, a .914 save percentage and a 2.64 goals against average.

More to it than Pominville. Sounds like the Minny farm is involved big time.

Minny sure won't have any trouble scoring goals for the remainder of the year...

As a minnisodan I'm liking this move . Assuming pominville who is right handed plays with paraise and koivu it could be a great line and the RW it needed. Either way I like it and like what fletcher is doing with the franchise since he's taken over.

Well thought this would happen but for nobody I recognize....is this 5' 10" Johan Larsson ready to play for the Sabres or will he be going to the Amerks? I say screw it and just recall Cody McCormick.

For the Buffalo fans out there, the population of Pominville will stay at 185. I miss rick Jeanneret making that call. We're loaded going into the draft, Sabres got a great deal.

I like what Regier is doing. If you're going to rebuild do it right and the Sabres are really shipping out a lot right now.

For the Sabres sake maybe they ship Regier out in the offseason.

Regier got a contract extension before this season. Unfortunately he's not going anywhere.

As long as he is shipping out lazy veterans I'm ok with it, I'll give him a chance to see what he does in the offseason without having Lindy Ruff. It's probably the first time Regier will decide what players he'll go after without having the same coach and system for a decade. As long as the Sabres are building up a young and cheap team I'm happy.

Regier has made some decent moves...but I don't know much about the guys coming back. Larsson sounds like the one to get excited about. Should make the Amerks even stronger if he doesn't play in Buffalo.

Sad to see you go Pommers, but it was much easier to trade you than strip you of the C.

Hackett may be enough to push Miller out the door. He will be a serviceable NHL goaltender. I temper my expectations with goalies because of how tough the position is.
