Sabres Sign Mikhail Grigorenko to Entry-Level Contract

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the team has signed forward Mikhail Grigorenko to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Grigorenko (6’3”, 200 lbs., 5/16/94) was selected by the Sabres with the 12th overall pick in the first-round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He was the third-ranked North American skater and top North American center on NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings. The native of Khabarovsk, Russia is Buffalo’s highest forward selection since they took Thomas Vanek with the fifth overall pick in 2003.

In 2011-12, Grigorenko scored 85 points (40+45) while picking up just 12 penalty minutes for the Quebec Remparts in his first QMJHL season. He led all first-year players in the league in goals and points, and was second in regular-season assists. Despite only playing in 59 games, Grigorenko’s 40 goals and 85 points tied him for fifth and eighth place, respectively, among all players in the league.

He could be, if he had some heart. He has everything: overall skills, puck control, great passing...

But where's the heart?

Like so many others he probably forgot it in fatherland, Russia.

He is pure bread Russian, we never know how there careers are going to turn out, rememeber he is still coming from the Patrick Roy system of being a biittch, All I can say is remember the last famous Russian to come out of the Quebec Rampart, yup Alexander Radulov.....

This kid could be really good. Buffalo has shied away from drafting Russians in the past few years, so they must really see him as something special.

ha! Defietley some great point's fellas, I've always secretly cheered for the Sabres, if he does grow a heart and provide game in and game out determination this kid playing alongside Vanek might be a deadly combination.

Mikhail Grigorenko has always played center, I think it would be in Buffalo's best interest to keep him at the center postition, you don't want him to play out of position then start floating around out there....

He didn't say anything about putting him in the wing?

Vanek is a winger and Grig could play on the same line with Vanek...as a center.
