Sabres Re-Sign Nathan Gerbe

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract with forward Nathan Gerbe.

Gerbe (5’5”, 178 lbs., 7/24/1987) scored 31 points (16+15) in 64 games for the Sabres last season, including 15 goals in Buffalo’s final 40 games. The 23-year-old native of Oxford, Michigan, set a new Sabres franchise record for fastest two goals by one player when he scored two goals just five seconds apart on January 21 against the New York Islanders.

Gerbe, the 2008 AHL Rookie of the Year, was Buffalo’s fifth-round selection (142nd overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Gerbe’s three-year deal is for a total of $4.3 million; an average of $1.433 million per season.
Waaaaay too much imo.

This guy was fun to watch last year, at only 5'5'' he still checks good and is willing to stick up for himself.

He's a disturber, I'll give him that. Not too sure he'll stick up for himself other than some whacks at a players ankle.

Not a bad signing, I just think they overpaid as usual.

Yeah that's definitely more then what I expected, but maybe another team would have offered him more. He scored most of our clutch goals at the end of the year, so I'm glad he's back.

1,4 millions isn't really overpaying for an eventual 20 goal scorer, if you consider that some teams are paying 7 millions for 7 goals.

That just makes those teams even dumber!

I do like the kid.... I'm just sick of the Sabres being a bunch of undersized softies, and I guess I took it out on this munchkin.

I like Gerbe a lot. He was the reason I watched College finals 2-3 years ago. He was just dominant there. Great kid with leadership qualities.

As I've said...we drafted Cattenacci...so be prepared to see a lot of other undersized players also in the future.

Let me clarify that sentiment.... they can have a load of midgets as long as they have a HW with a good MW riding shotgun.

Bring in Boulton. Not the best, but a decent HW who has upped his game in recent years IMO.

Sign McCormick.

Keep Kassian up.

I'll be happy then.....

Get ready to be disappointed because they are trying to re-sign Connolly and we are going to end up with to many forwards again

I think the key word in that title is MAY. The general consensus (deserved or not) around town is that a change of scenery for Connolly would benefit all involved.

I hope that Pegula sees this and puts the pressure on to get rid of/ let him go. According to more recent articles, there has been contact, but no offers.

He shows that midgets can make it in this league. Didn't he get in Chara's face in a game in Boston last season if I remember right?

I think he got in Chara's groin. He'd need a ladder to get in his face.
