Sabres Re-Sign Jochen Hecht

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that center Jochen Hecht has agreed to terms on a one-year contract.

Hecht (6'1", 198 lbs., 6/21/77) played in 22 games in 2011-12 and tallied eight points (4+4). The Mannheim, Germany tied his career-best mark with a three-game goal streak from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2.

Acquired from Edmonton in a trade prior to the 2002-03 season, Hecht has recorded 331 points (133+198) in 566 regular-season games as a member of the Sabres. As the longest-tenured player on the team's roster, Hecht ranks 20th in franchise history in games played, goals and points. He leads all active Sabres with a career plus/minus rating of plus-94, ranking him 23rd among all active NHL players.

Bah, don't like this signing. He sucks and will only take away playing time from Scott, McCormick or Foligno. Knowing Lindy Ruffy he will certainly prefer Hecht over some toughness.

I have mixed emotions. He's a decent defensive forward and will help on special teams, but enough already with this guy. Buffalo is supposed to have some good young talent, give them a damn shot. I read on another board that he was signed just to help cover McCormick's spot until his finger fully heals.

I didn't know McCormick and Gerbe were injured. How long are they out?

*If* healthy he's a high production player. It was an interesting stat Hecht is second in puck possession, that comes as a surprise.
