Sabres Claim Matt Ellis From Los Angeles

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have claimed LW Matt Ellis off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

Ellis (8/31/1981, 6’, 207 lbs.) split last season between Detroit and Los Angeles, picking up eight points (3+5) in 54 games.

He started the season with the Red Wings, but was claimed off waivers by the Kings on February 21/08. Ellis has eight points in 70 career NHL games.

Ellis played with Detroit’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids from 2003-07, collecting 153 points (69+84) in 282 games.

A native of Welland, Ont., Ellis played four years of junior hockey with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors of the Ontario Hockey League.

Ellis signed as an undrafted free agent with Detroit in May 2002.

Got to love Matt Ellis, He's just a blue collar, Lunch pal type of guy, He had good position, great leadership skills, and just hustles his but off every shift.. Sadly he just doesn't have the skill level to be much of a NHL player.

Hopefully Buffalo can find a way to get him some playing time.
