Sabres Agree to Terms With Paetsch

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with restricted free agent defenseman Nathan Paetsch, who was scheduled for NHL arbitration Thursday, August 2 in Toronto.

Paetsch, 24, played in 63 games as a rookie with the Sabres last season, finishing with 24 points (2+22), 50 PIMs and was +10. Nine of Paetsch’s 24 points came on the power play, and he amassed a career-best four-game point streak (0+4) from January 26-February 1.

The native of LeRoy, Saskatchewan, was Buffalo's 7th-round choice (202nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Paetsch played junior hockey with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League, and won back-to-back silver medals with Team Canada at the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships.

The Buffalo News has Paestch confirming it. I'm pretty excited about this, Paestch is probably my favorite Sabre aside from Peters. Good on the special teams, can jump back and forth between a forward position and defenseman. Also got into a fight or two (and lost) but it's good to see some guys on the team drop the gloves.

I like Paetsch more than I do D-Kal.He is way better on the powerplay than alot of our every day players.Peters should show him a thing or 2 about fighting though. He lost to Richards and Mezei,it's hard to watch this guy fight he's so bad,at least he's willing.

My friend Ryan played hockey with and against Paetsch in Humboldt and was in deep competition with him too. Good hockey player and not much of a fighter of any kind. But hes a blessing on the PP. I enjoy watching him with the Sabres.

Good news, he's a very offensive d-man, and every once in a while plays the wing. I really wish he would improve his fighting, but the guy can't be perfect.
