Sabres Acquire Mikael Tellqvist
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have acquired goaltender Mikael Tellqvist (pronounced Michael Tell-kwist) from Phoenix in exchange for Buffalo’s fourth-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Tellqvist (9/19/1979, 6’0, 189 lbs.) has played in 15 games for the Coyotes this season, posting a record of 7-5-1. He has a 2.86 GAA and .907 save percentage. Currently in his eighth NHL season, Tellqvist has a career record of 43-40-2-8 with Phoenix and Toronto, along with six shutouts, 3.04 GAA and .897 save percentage. Tellqvist was originally selected by Toronto in the 3rd round (70th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Sundbyberg, Sweden, Tellqvist was traded to Phoenix by Toronto for Tyson Nash and Boston's 4th round choice in the 2007 Entry Draft on November 28, 2006. A vote of no faith in Patrick Lalime. Tellqvist should be a solid backup.

Good pickup by the Sabres to help fill the gap in net during Miller's injury. Lalime in goal every night doesn't inspire a ton of confidence for a team trying to qualify for the playoffs. Hopefully for the Sabres they can get some strong play out of Tellqvist.

Lalime has actually played pretty decently since Miller went down. The team in front of him gives him no support. His record stinks but the last three games he's more or less done his job, they just don't score any goals. Tellqvist is a better alternative than Jhonas Enroth as backup down the stretch (and if Lalime starts sucking he can start as well), and it will help out Portland because with Enroth in the NHL and Adam Dennis out for the season they don't have a goalie.
Regier denied Miller was out for the season but if they're going out to grab a goalie they have to be a little worried about it.

i like Telly and felt he got the raw deal in T Dot, but then again, this over the long haul does not solve the Sabres worries down the stretch for a playoff push. Best of luck to you Telly.

I have no idea once again why this trade happened. I thought he could have been the yotes 1 goalie for years to come in the future. This one has me scratching my head.
