Ryan Hollweg Suspended Three Games

TORONTO - New York Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg has been suspended for three games, without pay, as a result of being assessed a game misconduct during NHL game #1028 against the Philadelphia Flyers last night, the National Hockey League announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Hollweg will forfeit $7,515.30. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Hollweg was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct for a hit on Philadelphia player R.J. Umberger at 16:43 of the first period.

Hollweg will miss Friday's game at Florida, March 25 at Tampa Bay and March 27 against Buffalo. He will be eligible to return March 29 in New York against the Islanders.

i think heavy checks from behind should be hefty suspensions, it would wake some players up.

That hit was a 3 game worthy suspension. The Cairns spear was not.

I have to admit my whole reaction to this is that I hope Brashear goes after Hollweg next time they play, and Orr steps in to take on Brashear, and we get to see round 2 which we didn't get last night. I think these two could have a pretty good go this time around - Orr disappointed badly last time.

First off, Brashear will be more interested in nailing Kaspar to the wall, then going after Hollweg. Second, if Renney doesnt dress Orr in that game he's on drugs. Third of all, even Hollweg said he thought it was dirty, but he meant to hit him from the side. He just turned around and it was too late for him to stop. Fourth, KY, you have a mind of a genius!

Great...now Tom Renney has a reason to replace Hollweg with another Czech. I hate Renney so much.

can we all just stop with hoping brashear will do things, and saying hes definitely going after so and so next time. in case your new he doesnt do that. and how did Orr dissapoint badly? is he supposed to just jump brashear to get him to fight? they were on the ice together a few times and nothing. if your saying Orr was disappointing then you should include Brashear with that. they didnt fight last time and they probably wont next time. we have to stop getting our hopes up for this fights, they just arent happening like they did years ago.

This just in!!!

According to Keith Jones, Umberger and Hollweg have some history. It seems Hollweg doesn't like Umberger back from their days at Juniors or something like that. He said they were on the same team and there was dome bad blood between the two. Interesting. I don't know how Keith found this out or how it wasn't made public after the hit. But if its true things should get interesting.

I gurantee Brash will not go after Kasper. But it Kasper hits someone next time they play, Gauthier will respond with the same kind of hit.

The Flyers learned a lesson after chasing Kasper around.
