Ruslan Fedotenko Re-Signs in Pittsburgh
The Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to terms with forward Ruslan Fedotenko to a one-year contract through the 2009-2010 season, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.
Fedotenko, 30, scored 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) and ranked second on the team with a plus-18 rating in 65 games with the Penguins this season. It marked the seventh time that he recorded 30-plus points in a single season. He appeared in 24 games for Pittsburgh during the post-season, recording seven goals and 14 points. The 6-2, 195-pound winger has played parts of eight seasons with Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Philadelphia from 2000- 2009. Fedotenko won his first Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion has collected 278 points (139 goals, 139 assists) along with 369 penalty minutes in 597 career games in the NHL. He has tallied 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) in 77 post-season contests. The native of Kiev, Ukraine became the first Ukrainian-born player to win the Stanley Cup in 2004. He appeared in one game for the Ukraine at the 2006 Olympics, scoring one goal against Switzerland. Fedotenko was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Philadelphia in 1999 and made his NHL debut Oct. 24, 2000 with the Flyers. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on July 3, 2008.

Tank is a playoff preformer. This is going to be one of the best deals this summer for dollar wise.
Here's my favorite Fedotenko moment from last season.

Well what was all this crap about three year deals being thrown his way??$1.8 mil for one year is a nice deal for the Pens though. He must have really been short changed if he took a one year deal instead of a three year deal if there was even one out there...

Someone mentioned it already, but Ruslan will always have a place in my hockey heart for the 2 biggest goals in Tampa bay Lightning history.

Could be that it was his decision. As opposed to Hossa, he actually stayed with the team that has a shot at repeating, something he wouldn't necessarily get with another club. Also he may be thinking that after this upcoming season he wants to go home, or i could be talking out of my ass altogether. Only Ruslan knows lol

I said this yesterday but my post got deleted - this is a great re-signing, at an awesome price tag! He proved without a doubt that he is money in the playoffs - scored the first goal that got the Pens going in Game 6 against the Flyers, scored 2 huge goals in Games 3 and 5 against the Caps, and had the opening goal against the Canes in Game 1 or 2, can't remember which one. He said he really didn't get any great offers from any of the other teams, and that was why he took the Pens' offer. Doesn't hurt that he has a chance to win another Cup either.
