Rumor: Edmonton offers Cogliano, Horcoff, Pick, Prospect, for Kovalchuk

Quote:
- As promised, I have some details on talks between the Oilers and Thrashers. The Oilers have a great deal of interest in Kovalchuk. While the Thrashers do not want to give him up, a package involving Horcoff, Coglaino, as well as a top pick and a top prospect has Atlanta listening.

Now I have never heard of this site, but it appears that this has been offered. Which doesnt look bad on paper, but doesnt Horcoff have a terrible contract?

In my eyes thats a win for us, I mean it's Ilya F*cking Kovalchuk!!! Horcoff is at the top of his game right now and it's not that great, Cogliano is going to get better, he is a speedster, great penalty killer, but will never develop much more scoring, and without knowing the prospect I can't get any further into it, but wow I would be pumped to see Kovalchuk and Hemmer playing on the same line, Kovalchuk could put pucks in the net from passes from Ales that Horcoff always fanned on.

Have you ever seen Horcoff play?

Maybe there is hope in Edmonton? Finally, a guy in charge who doesn't believe Lennart Petrell is a legitimate roster player.

i would easily offer those players for kovalchuk. I would even throw in a couple more to get em. Good on edmonton if they land him. Wish Kovalchuk was on Vancouver, so if the oiler get em, id be kinda jelous. I believe Kovalchuk could be a player that takes edmonton into the playoffs.

exactly, and the Thrashers may not get as much with Kovalchuk's contract coming off the books next season.. the only thing i see is between him and Gaborik, Kovalchuk is more offensively gifted. Both players are lazy as hell, but even on a **** team like Atlanta, Kovalchuk continues to light it up.

its hossa all over again

that's an awful lot to give for 1 f'ing guy. If he doesn't produce that team would be SOL for a while. I find it extremely hard that edmonton is even offering this kinda deal, b/c they need a lot more then just 1 player to fix that team.

I don't think Kovalchuk is lazy. Not at all, he plays with a lot of emotion sometimes and works hard for his chances too. He just hasn't realized yet what it takes to do to be a complete teamleader on a team. He need's to learn what Modano did learn after his initial 50 goal seasons.

This trade would be a good one for both teams, but who would play center with Hemsky and Kovalchuk? Gagner?

To be a pansy? Or had he already learned that when he first came into the league?

I do agree that I don't think Kovalchuk is a lazy player. He doesn't have the most complete game among the league's superstars, but he's gotten better. And in terms of pure talent he's probably among the top 5 players in the league, but has been stuck with an organization that's not going anywhere. This trade would be a pretty good return for Atlanta depending on who the prospect turns out to be. We don't know what other teams might offer up for Ilya at this point so I'm sure he'll continue to be shopped for a while before any decision is made, but the Thrashers are bound to get less if they try to deal him next season.

the oilers were on the upside of this kind of trade , when they sent smyth to the islanders.

the oilers owner might be getting "len barrie" fever, where he feels the need to make a splash, no matter how stupid the move might be

LOL. No I didn't mean he should turn into a pansy and whiner like Modano.

I think Modano was initially concentrated on scoring goals and after some time in Dallas under Ken Hitchcock, he learned to sacrifice some of his own stats to work harder defensivily and to lead with little things instead of just trying to score goals.
Kovalchuk has the size and the skating ability to be way more effective on more aspects then just scoring goals. But until now he doesn't seem to be all too interested in changing his mindset about that.
Only if he starts backchecking, playing a more physical game maybe, trying to be more of a playmaker then just scoring his 50 goals, teams will finally see him as a franchise player to build around a team. I think he could be that kind of player, but until now he is or was just a goal scorer.

bad move by both in this case. horcoff hasnt played decent this year after his injury last year. yes edmonton needs a spark but kovy wont do it when you give up cogliano and horcoff. there would be no one capable on the oilers to play center between kovy and hemsky. not enough for atlanta to make the deal but with waddell as gm he always gets shafted in big trades.
