TORONTO -- Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien has been suspended, pending a hearing, as a result of becoming involved in an altercation with a fan during NHL Game #76 last night in Minnesota. The incident took place at 13:38 of the second period. The League will have no comment until the matter has been resolved.

Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien is expected to face a National Hockey League disciplinary hearing after he confronted and pushed a fan during his team's 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the second period as Rypien was heading to his team's dressing room after being assessed a double minor penalty for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

Footage of the incident, which has already been posted on YouTube, showed the fan applauding before Rypien pushed the fan in the chest and attempted to grab him before being pulled away by a teammate.

Shocking..

If we consult the suspension flow chart, we're due for Damien Cox to write an anti-fighting article, and then it should be down to the 5 game marker.

5 should be the most he gets. But that all depends on what drugs the random retard (Campbell) is on right now.

It'll prob end up being more than 5 games. I think 1 or 2 would be acceptable, it wasn't really much.

Realistically, as a professional athlete, you should be able to retain enough composure to separate yourself from on ice events and the fans, the dude was just clapping. Chalk it up as an isolated incident and move on, I'm sure that the press will have a field day with it once the suspension comes down.

That's just the way it's going to go."

Burn him at the stake.
Or just two games...
this just sucks for me since the Hawks are playing the knuckleheads tonight.

What I think he'll get: 10 games
What he should get: 4-5 games

It's the first time he's really exploded like this. I don't think an example needs to be made of Rypien.

He needs to get something though for attacking a fan who did nothing wrong.

Are you sure? a fan doesnt sayed anything nasty to Rypien?
The emotions is part of the game but on the other hand this was outside of the game/rink, when he was walking to dressing room.
Nothing serious in my mind, because he didnt go punching a fan.

Hey, not for nothing but could it be that the father, or fan in red jersey next to the kid who got grabbed by Rypien said something that incited him?
Not condoning his actions but every analyst keeps saying there is no way the fan looks to have said anything to Rypien.

There have been some great goals, saves, hits and fights this year and we are still leading some sports highlight reels with incidents like this that portray the league in a negative way to the casual fan. Bettman will probably throw the book at him and he should be suspended. No excuse.

Speaking of all these suspensions lately...
Meanwhile, we also saw Sean Avery slash Komisarek twice and get off scot free.
What happened there?

Kommie's maxi pad fell out and he bled all over his dress, Avery had to buy him a new one.

We don't know what (if anything) the fan said to Rypien.

If the fan did say something, it couldn't have been that bad. I think it's a safe assumption that the fan didn't say anything racist or call Rypien a homo or f*g because that probably wouldn't offend Rypien.

The fan clapped and maybe mocked Rypien or said something sarcastic. As a professional athlete, you have to ignore it and just walk back to the locker room.
