Red Wings Sign Dick Axelsson and Logan Pyett

DETROIT -- Red Wings general manager Ken Holland announced today that the club has signed forward Dick Axelsson and defenseman Logan Pyett to three-year entry level contracts.

Axelsson (6-foot-2, 176-pounds) was drafted by the Red Wings in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He played for Djurgardens Stockholm of the Swedish Elite League in 2007-08. Axelsson finished the season with 12 goals and 13 assists in 47 games.

Pyett (5-foot-11, 198-pounds) was a seventh round selection (212th overall) of the Red Wings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He captained the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League in 2007-08 and finished the season with 20 goals and 34 assists in 62 games.

Yeah, thats their curse for being the best team every year. Its been 17 years since they last had a top 10 pick. And if it wasn't for 2005, picking Jakub Kindl 19th, then it would have been the same amount of time since their last top 20 pick.

But hey, as long as they keep picking Zetterbergs, Datsyuks, Holmstroms and Franzens, I won't complain.

And how did Logan Pyett get drafted 212th? He captained his junior team AND played for Team Canada.
