The buzz around Detroit right now is that Aaron Downey has made the team. It's still a premature announcement, but Babcock is really high on him. I think Lidstrom you can thank too if he makes the team. After the playoffs last year Lidstrom really pushed for someone to protect the young forwards. Downey will do just that and 'keep the flies off' as Babcock said about him. Downey may of just made the team with his edge over Andre Roy last night, literally FOUGHT FOR HIS JOB.

I think when the PR says "release", it actually means they're released from the NHL camp invite, and if they're under contact to Grand Rapids, which I believe Keefe is, he'll end up there.

I was hoping Ference, Clark, and Keefe would stick around and make the team. They are gritty players that Detroit could use. Now, they aren't very good fighters by any means, but Detroit can use any grit they can get. Especially Ference - I thought for sure he would make it....
But oh well. At least Downey is still alive. It seems like Babcock and the Wings really like him, so let's hope he makes it. IMO, he has a good chance.

I was at the Det Vs. TB game...Neil Clark looked good against Tarnasky too bad he got cut...but Downey looked even better against Roy. I got to talk to Aaron Downey after the game. I asked him about his one punch to Boulerice a couple years back, he said "Lucky punch" and laughed. If the Lightning were smart, they would go after Jassen Cullimore...he looked decent against his old team..and TB could use another vet D now that Boyle is out. Quincy also looked good for the Wings.
