New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent center Scott Gomez.

He also led the Devils in faceoff percentage (52.2%), ranked first among team forwards in average icetime (18:55) and placed second on the club with a career-high 248 shots on goal. By collecting 60 points, Gomez surpassed the 50-point mark for the fifth time in six NHL seasons. In addition, Gomez led the Devils in postseason assists (10) and points (14). His 10 assists tied for sixth among all NHL players in the playoffs. He also tied for the team-lead with a plus-six rating in the postseason. In 2005-06, Gomez led New Jersey in assists (51), and ranked second on the team with a career-high 33 goals and 84 points. He posted 26 multiple-point games during the season, which equaled a franchise record, and recorded a career-high 10-game point streak from December 28 through January 17, collecting eight goals and 11 assists over the span. In the 2006 playoffs, Gomez tied for third on the team with nine points (five goals and four assists) in nine games. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder has skated in 548 career regular season contests with the New Jersey Devils, registering 116 goals and 334 assists for 450 points, along with 362 penalty minutes. In 1999-00, he won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie after setting a Devils' rookie record for assists (51) and points (70). He also represented North America at the 2000 NHL All-Star Game and helped the Devils capture the Stanley Cup that season, recording four goals and six assists for 10 points in 23 postseason games. Gomez is one of only eight players in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup and Calder Trophy in the same season and was the first since 1963. He also led the Devils and tied for first in the NHL with a career-high, 56 assists in 2003-04. In postseason play, Gomez has appeared in 97 career contests with the Devils, registering 21 goals and 44 assists for 65 points, along with 50 penalty minutes. In addition, he was a member of the United States squad at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the World Junior Championships in 1998 and 1999. The Anchorage, Alaska native was originally New Jersey's first round choice, 27th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
