Rangers Place Shanahan on IR; Recall Brad Isbister
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Brad Isbister has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), while forward Brendan Shanahan has been placed on Injured Reserve.
Isbister, 29, has appeared in 42 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack and Albany River Rats (AHL) this season, registering 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points, along with a plus-eight rating and 76 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 231-pound forward has collected 11 goals and eight assists in 33 games with Hartford, after being acquired by the Rangers from Carolina on November 21, in exchange for the rights to Jakub Petruzalek and a conditional fifth round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In addition, Isbister has notched six goals in the last nine games and currently leads the Wolf Pack with a plus-eight rating. Shanahan, 38, has skated in 58 games with the Rangers this season, registering 28 goals and 26 assists for 54 points, along with 43 penalty minutes. The 6-3, 220-pound forward currently leads the Rangers in goals (28), power play goals (14) and shots on goal (257), while his 54 points rank fourth on the club.

I think Isbister belongs in the NHL anyway... it's a shame it takes Shanny going down to bring him back up. Other teams would probably give him more playing time.

Izzy, IMO, is an NHL'er that doesnt deserve to be in the minors at all. I know I'd trade Stephane Veilleux for him in a heart beat. Big guy that can forecheck like hell, chip in with 20 or more points, and can scrap on top of it. Not sure why the hell he'd be in the minors to begin with... |
