Rangers Dylan McIlrath Out Indefinitely

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Dylan McIlrath underwent surgery to repair a dislocated kneecap.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Feldman and Dr. Anthony Maddalo earlier today at the NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan.

McIlrath skated in 52 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) last season, registering three goals and 20 assist for 23 points, along with 127 penalty minutes. He ranked second on the team among defensemen with a career-high in assists, and tied for second in points.

McIlrath also tallied six assists, 12 penalty minutes and a plus-three rating in 14 playoff contests with Moose Jaw. He established playoff career-highs in games played, assists, points, and plus/minus rating.

In addition, McIlrath skated in five playoff contests with the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL). He made his AHL playoff debut on May 4 at Norfolk.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was originally selected by the Rangers as a first round choice, 10th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

When I was in high school I had a surgery to repair a dislocated knee cap and two torn ligaments, and it kept me out of commission for about 3 and a half months.

Considering that McIlrath is a professional athlete and has professional trainers assisting him in recovery, he should be able to get back into playing shape in less than 3 months, depending on what the actual damage is to his knee.
