gaborik is not worth $7.5 million for one year let alone five years!!! he's hurt way too much and cant live up to the pressure in minnesota, so do you honestly think he'll live up to it in new york with their media??? i think not. dumb move by sather.

big jack he came back healthy and had 13 goals 10 assists in 17 games not bad, not to mention 5 goals in a game against our rangers in recent times

High risk, high reward signing, its as simple as that. Every one knows how prone he is to injury, but there's no denying the absolute talent the guy is - I think its a good signing by the Rags - its only for 5 years, its not one of those crazy 10 year deals, and really, 7.5 mil/season is actually a decent price for him.
Good luck with this guy Ranger fans - if he does catch on and stay healthy, then you got a gem here, and I'll be glad he's out of the NW Division. But I wonder what will happen to this house Gabby supposedly bought in Vancouver?

You're allowed to be over the cap up to a certain point, but I don't believe the Rangers are yet.

I was waiting on you jack. At least you are not as against this signing as you were Redden, so maybe we have a shot here.

I smell a Valeri Kamensky type signing here....waaaayyyy too much money for this guy...sorry. Sather WAS on the right track yesterday but the real Glen Sather showed up today...Brash for Orr and now Gaborik. How is this prima donna going to co-exist with Tortorella? 5 years too. I would have given him 3 MAX but 5? Sather is a buffoon.

Wow, they overpaid here.
7.5 mil per year for Gaborik? WTF are they doing? Gaborik is good, but he's injury proned and is NOT the player he used to be. He doesn't deserve that much. I ****ing hate the dumbass Rangers. They have to get everybody, but hopefully their moves this year backfire on them like they do every year. When will this stupid team learn? They can spend all this money, but they still don't go anywhere in the playoffs.

If he stays healthy it's a steal, even if he doesn't play all 82, if we can get him to stay around 75 games a season and healthy for the playoffs we will all enjoy him. If they passed on him, then all thats left would be selling the farm for Heatley which I wanted no part of or signing Havlat, which they would certainly over pay for far less of a player than Gaborik(and hes injury prone too).

I don't agree with that man, when Gaborik came back late last season he was on an absolute tear and looked like the Gaborik from a couple years ago - by all indications his hip/groin problems are behind him, and really, he's just now entering his prime years. Personally, I'm glad he's out of my division and in an entirely different conference. Its a high risk signing, but I think this will be a good one for New York.

I'd rather worry about a true sniper being healthy and knowing when hes in the lineup hes going to get things done, rather than watching a guy getting paid the same go out there every night and accomplish nothing. It may be a risk, but it's a huge upgrade over Gomez, even if he misses half the season.

You guys have a good enough supporting cast (and even did to get into the playoffs with Gomez doing nothing) where his presence being gone 50 or so games won't matter. For a team like the Wild, it was a rail road spike in the skull.
