Rangers Agree to Terms with Colton Orr

Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Colton Orr.

Orr, 24, appeared in 35 games with the Rangers and Boston Bruins this season, registering one assist along with 71 penalty minutes. He was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on November 29, 2005. After joining the Blueshirts, he appeared in 15 games, collecting one assist and 44 penalty minutes. His 44 penalty minutes ranked seventh on the club.

On March 29, he notched his first career NHL point with an assist in the Rangers 5-1 win at the Islanders. In addition, Orr made his playoff debut with the Rangers on April 24 in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at New Jersey.

In 126 career American Hockey League (AHL) contests with the Providence Bruins, the 6-3, 225-pound winger registered two goals and 10 assists, along with 543 penalty minutes. During the 2004-05 season, Orr tallied one goal and six assists in 61 games with Providence (AHL), and led the team with 279 penalty minutes. In 2004, he made his NHL debut with Boston on January 8 vs. Pittsburgh.

Prior to turning professional, Orr spent over four seasons (1999-2003) in the Western Hockey League (WHL), skating with Swift Current, Kamloops and Regina.

The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was originally signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent on September 19, 2001.

Wait a second, does this mean the Rags will be tolerable to watch - all year - next year?

Again, great news for HFC fans!

Great signing by Rangers. This guys going to be the real deal if given the chance to play. He reminds me of a young JOEY KOCUR. The Rangers prize is the Ruins loss. Oh well, they have Dan Lacouture.

Another good signing!

I'm expecting Orr to play a lot more next season. The Rangers seem to like his upside.

Great news for all fans...another reminder / slap in the face to B's fans... of what could have been. Lets hope the Rangers smarten up and let him play next season.

I think the Rangers are anticipating a couple of things:

1)The Devils playing the same style of hockey they played last year where they stressed physical play and banged the Rangers around, especially in the playoffs.

2)The Islanders getting a tougher attitude and Ted Nolan turning them into a bit more of a hard nosed team.

3)They remember the games where they got pushed around by teams like the Flyers and Penguins and had no one to step up in their lineup. Strudwick and Hollweg may drop the gloves, but they're not Colton Orr.

Great to see him get signed and I think this should mean more playing time next year since they trusted him enough to play in the playoffs this year.
