Rangers Acquire John Scott From Chicago

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman John Scott from Chicago in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Scott, 29, has skated in 140 career regular season contests in four seasons with Minnesota and Chicago, registering one goal and four assists, along with 231 penalty minutes. He has also recorded 22 penalty minutes and a plus-one rating in four career playoff contests with Chicago.

Scott made his NHL debut with Minnesota on January 3, 2009 vs. Detroit, and tallied his first career point with an assist on March 15, 2009 at St. Louis. He notched his first NHL goal on November 15, 2009 at Carolina, as a member of the Wild.

He established an AHL career-high in assists (five) and points (six) in 2006-07, and tallied a career-high in goals (three) in 2007-08.

Prior to turning pro, Scott skated in 126 games over four seasons with Michigan Tech of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), registering seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points, along with 352 penalty minutes.

As a Michigan Tech senior in 2005-06, he established a career-high with three goals, and tied his career-high with five points in 24 games.

The Edmonton, Alberta native originally signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent on December 31, 2006.

Didn't see that coming at all.

What's the explanation on Chicago's side?
And on Rangers' side?

the only thing I can think of is Tortorella thinks Rupp has forgotten how to enforce. Either that or he's a Connecticut signing. But if so why would they give up a 5th round pick? Really doesn't make a lot of sense.

Rupp, Prust, Scott, Bickel? What's up with Tortorella...did he loose his mind?

Now they'll have two enforcers that forgot to enforce.

Will this force the Pens to recall MacIntyre?
