Get rid of the instigator Penalty
Impossible that the 4 "BLIND MICE" on the Ice did not see that hit on Hossa.
Then Bollig gets 2 for roughing plus 10. Back before instigator penalty when the sheriff on the team was watching a goon like Tores would think twice about hitting a skilled player like hossa. |

Keith/Weber/Neal all got away with actions that weren't hockey plays. They all have a 'history' with the league. Raffi Torres hit on Hossa was a hockey play just like Brown's hit on Henrik Sedin. I believe Mike Smith embellished the hit he took from Adams.
I firmly suspect that Chicago ordered the stretcher to take Hossa off the ice. Even if it was just precautionary. The media ate up the theatrics of it. |

Won Torres. Hawks were down one man on the ice for 2 minutes, Bollig also sat for a total of 12 and Hossa was gone for the game. Torres got NOTHING and the Hawks lost the game. Win Torres ... He is a dime a dozen player so he can be replaced. Now Hossa cannot be replaced.

I'm a Coyotes fan, but I agree with a lengthy suspension on this one. Torres continues to do the same stupid **** that always gets him into trouble, and he simply doesn't learn. The feet don't leave the ice and the hit is okay. He has a problem with jumping as he checks, however, which is actually outlined in the "charging" rule. Shanny is a moron who has gotten very few right, but this one is deserving....

I don't know guys, I don't like to see anyone carted off on a stretcher, I am not a PHO fan, and I understand Torres is a turd, but I've seen people leave their feet much worse than this. Look at any "bumps and bruises" or "top ten hits" compilation from any season. I think everyone is taking the media's lead and overreacting because of the stretcher as opposed to the actual hit. Did you see Billy Jaffe on NHL network after that? His "performance" was absurd, like he was Hossa's father or something and the refs found a steak knife in Hossa's midsection. WTF? If Torres doesn't leave his feet, it's a clean hit (it didn't seem late). If Smith or Sedin got carted off on a stretcher, and if Brown and Shaw had worse reputations, we'd likely be hearing a similar overreaction. If Torres name was Scott Stevens, it would certainly be a clean hit back in the day (assuming you like that kind of tough hockey).
I really hope Hossa is ok, but the real problems in my opinion: 1. Get rid of instigator. 2. Keep your head up!! I worry that this overreacting will lead to ruling out hard hitting and encourage head-shot-diving - players staying down longer than necessary anytime a hit/stick is a high, and refs handing out majors like candy. Be careful what you wish for.... |

There are several troubling aspects to this case, including, but not limited to:
1. the notorious inconsistency in meting out discipline; 2. the fact that Torres is a repeat-offender thug; and 3. the fact that officials totally blew this call. On the latter: I wish that there was a way I could outfit my Labs with skates and stripes so that they could lend some assistance in the "visual acuity" department to the on-ice alleged policing presence. |

NHL hypocrisy at its best.
Raffi Torres, a player with a history, just leaves his feet for a hit on a puck carrier. James Neal, a player with a history, launches himself into an unsuspecting, non-puck carrier. Bogus. Absolutely f*cking bogus. |
