Purinton Suspended for 10 Games

TORONTO - NY Rangers' defenseman Dale Purinton has been suspended for 10 games, without pay, and will forfeit $26,658.20 in salary for an eye gouging incident involving Boston player Colton Orr in a pre-season game on October 1.

Purinton was assessed a match penalty for deliberate injury of opponent for his actions in an altercation with Orr at 2:26 of the third period.

"Purinton's actions were deliberate and dangerous," said NHL Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "In reaching this decision, it is also noted that Purinton has been suspended on three previous occasions by the League for deliberate attempts to injure an opponent."

Purinton will miss the Rangers first 10 games of the 2005-06 season and will be eligible to return Oct. 27 against New York Islanders.

Well, gouge people's eyes and you can expect some lengthy suspensions.

Looking at the schedule, he misses the first 2 opportunities for Oliwa to get his revenge, the first opportunity for Lessard to avenge the sucker punch last year, an Islander home and home, AND the first opportunity for Cairns to get at him.

Also if the team is going well and the defensemen are playing well in these 10 games, it could lead to the end of Dale's career.
