Pronger avoids suspension

Quote:

Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger could face disciplinary action from the National Hockey League after stomping on Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler on Wednesday night.

The incident happened in the opening minute of the second period in Anaheim's zone after a dump in from the blue line by Canucks defenceman Sami Salo.

Kesler - one of two Canuck forwards who chased down the puck behind the goal line - collided with Pronger along the boards and fell, and the Ducks captain appeared to deliberately step on him. Kesler did not suffer any injuries from after the incident.

"He stomped on me," Kesler told reporters after the game. "He got me on the calf."

It isn't the first time the former Norris and Hart Trophy winner has been involved in such incidents.

Pronger received a one-game suspension from the NHL last May for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom in Game 3 of the Western Conference final, and was suspended for a game in June for hitting Ottawa's Dean McAmmond in the head with his forearm during the third period of the Senators' 5-3 win in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final.

In December, New York Islanders forward Chris Simon received a 30-game suspension for trying to step on Pittsburgh forward Jarkko Ruutu's foot.

It will be interesting to see how they handle this compared to how they handled Simon. Granted Simon has a long record of offenses...

So does Pronger though, although not as severe. I'd be interested to see a clip of this to get a feel for what we're talking about. If this was a similar action to Simon's, the league is going to have a hard time not handing out a severe punishment, which could be a major problems for the Ducks.

If he gets the same as Simon got, he could be gone for the playoffs.

Even if the event were identical to what Simon did, I don't think he'll get anywhere close to what Simon got. Simon was coming off a 25 game suspension. Pronger has been suspended multiple times, but he hasn't had a very long one thus far. But the league would have to seriously consider double digit games for Pronger.

This is true. Just throwing it out there. The problem with these uber-suspensions that the NHL has doled out lately is that they're setting a precedant for suspensions in the future IMO.

As I've said a hundred time here before, pronger is probably one of the dirties players ever to play the game of hockey. Someone should punch him in his fractured jaw..
Oh wait that was suggested in the Anahymen Chicago fight thread, and duck fans crapped themselves over the Idea of an injured pronger not having to be held accountable for his dirty play.

From what I've read, it sounds like it was blown out of proportion by Kesler whining, but I still haven't seen it. If it really wasn't much of anything, then good decision by the league.

That, and I honestly think he's one of the DUMBEST players in the NHL - I don't think he's all there, to be honest. He just sounds like a dumb person, and after Simon gets 30 for what he did to Ruutu, he comes out and steps/stomps on another player with his skates? Idiot. What does he think is going to happen?

Take into account all the other dumb crap he pulled, the way and the manner he left the Oillers after he banged that reporter in one the smallest, hockey-crazed cities in all of North America, and you have the making of a borderline hockey retard. I hate this prick -I haven't seen the incident yet, but I hope he gets a good sized suspesion just for being stupid.

I don't see why injured players aren't fair game. So what if he has a shield on... if he wants to play as if he's healthy, he should accept all things thrown at him. Pronger is such a douche.

Pronger vs. Suspension Consistency?

WIN PRONGER!

Now come to the rangers :approve: Poor Chris Simon. 30 games was beyond ridiculous for what he did and this goes to proove it IMO.

NO NHL discipline for Pronger

JKidd 03-13-2008 02:57 PM

Wow. As soon as I posted the thread, it seems like the article changed to "no discipline taken."

Oh well.. title of the thread has been updated, for those that care.
