Predators Agree to Terms With David Legwand

Nashville, Tenn. - Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free-agent forward David Legwand (DAY-vihd LEHG-wahnd) on a two-year contract.

Legwand, 25 (8/17/80), was limited to 44 games due to a knee injury in 2005-06 and posted 26 points (7g-19a) for Nashville. The Detroit native tied for second on the club with five game-winning goals and the Predators posted a record of 30-9-5 with him in the lineup.

Nashville's first-ever NHL Entry Draft selection (second overall in 1998), Legwand is one of only four players to record 200 points and 400 games as a Predator. In 406 career NHL games, the 6-2, 190-pound pivot has posted 79 goals and 141 assists (79g-141a-220pts). He ranks fourth on the Predators' all-time games played and goals lists and fifth among franchise leaders in both assists and points.

Amazing this team actually re-signed him. I thought Polie was going to trade him and another couple of players for a 6th rounder in 08'.

wonder what this means for Greg Johnson?

i don't think the preds will re-sign him. he's old so i guess he'll be signing a 1 year deal somewhere else just like about every other UFA 35 and older.

Why is it amazing they re-signed him? He's a pretty good player, and would fit in well on the 2nd line.

B/c i didn't think Polie was in the Market to keep any of his players, after the last 2 awful trades he made

Walker for Vasicek

Hall and Pivko for a 3rd rounder

Other than the young guys Legwand is the only guy they have re-signed so far

Witt, Sillinger both gone

How? Legwand is not that bad of a player. He'll probably play 2nd line center, and put up decent numbers.

He has not developed into the player many thought he would become. 40-50 points top.

this is just another case of a guy going top 5 in the draft and if he doesn't put up 50-60 a year in the first couple years he's automatically dubbed a bust.

Bottom line they had to sign this guy. The centers are:
Arnott
Legwand
Fiddler
Smithson (if he's full time NHL)
Scott Nichol (4th line center at best)
Vasicek

they lost Sillinger, Johnson looks to be on his way out, and I have no clue what they're going to do about Perreault since he is an UFA.

Not one of those people i have listed fit into a 2nd line center except Legwand (IMO). The center FA's this year were slim pickens (they probably picked up the best out there in Arnott; exluding Gomez), i should know i'm a caps fan and we have been looking for one for the past 12 months

it's amazing how people find that a guy who produces 40-50 points is a bust, not every first rounder can put up Ovechkin-Crosby like numbers. If the price is "right" this can be decent.

He was a second overall pick if I remember right. No one expects Ovechkin-Crosby numbers, but he was drafted for offensive talent and he hasn't really translated it into the NHL at all.

Olli Jokinen went 3rd overall in '97. From 1998 to 2002 O.J. tallied 87 points in 315 games. Look at him now.

I wouldn't give up all hope on Legwand just yet.

I believe Legwand is taking a little longer than Olli to break through.
